8:28 Well, “Ryukyuan” and “Okinawan” aren’t synonymous. Ryukyuans are the ethnic group native to most of the Ryukyu Islands whereas Okinawans are the people who live in Okinawa. Okinawa is within the Ryukyu Islands but it’s not the only island chain. People from Ishigaki are Ryukyuan because the island is in Ryukyu but they’re not Okinawan because Ishigaki isn’t the same island as Okinawa. Basically, not all Ryukyuans are Okinawan but all Okinawans are Ryukyuan. This is kind of confusing so it’s hard to explain.
